Interested in improving your sports performance, movement efficiency and core strength, or rehabilitating after an injury? Come and join one of our APPI Pilates classes to start your journey towards a stronger more flexible you…

Our specialist Pilates classes are run by Caroline, a senior Physiotherapist and APPI Pilates instructor and can offer a tailored exercise regime to meet your needs.  Caroline has a special interest in antenatal and postnatal Pilates, and lower back pain rehabilitation.

The Australian Physiotherapy & Pilates Institute (APPI) is a rehabilitation-based Pilates with a specific focus on lumbo-pelvic stabilisation.  The exercises have been modified from the traditional Joseph Pilates exercises to reflect the evolving needs of the 21st century population.  This Pilates method has an important role to play in the prevention and rehabilitation of many injuries and musculo-skeletal complaints.

Pilates for back pain

We offer a bespoke Pilates class aimed at helping you engage correctly through your core and deep abdominal muscles, which is fundamental in providing protection and stability to your lower back.  We only offer 6 spaces in this class to ensure the instructor (physiotherapist) can give you the guidance and supervision required, and to progress your exercise at a level suitable to meet your needs.  The class runs as a 6 week course.  Each week you will build on your stability and strength so it is important you can commit to the full 6 weeks. Your physiotherapist may have referred you to this class, but self-referrals are also welcome.  Please contact us for more information or to book onto a course.

Antenatal Pilates

Research has shown the many benefits of exercise and keeping fit during pregnancy.  Pilates offers a safe and controlled form of exercise that can be both relaxing and energising.  The aim is to improve your overall flexibility and strength, and activation of your pelvic floor and deep abdominal muscles which can be beneficial during pregnancy, labour and post birth.

But what’s important is to take the principles away with you and try to apply them in your daily activities to receive the potential benefits of Pilates.

The class runs in 6 week blocks, which you can continue to attend from 12 weeks pregnant until your baby arrives.  We can offer pay-weekly sessions once you reach 38 weeks pregnant.  Please contact us for more information or to book onto a class.

Postnatal Pilates

Following 9 months of pregnancy and the miracle of giving birth to your baby, your body will be significantly deconditioned and in need of some TLC.  Pilates can offer a safe and highly effective way to help you rebuild your strength, flexibility and pelvic floor control.  Some mum’s and babies or post-natal exercise classes take you back in at a pre-pregnancy level of exercise that your body is not ready for and this can lead to injury and pain.  Our Pilates classes only offer 6 spaces and are run by a physiotherapist who can tailor the exercises to meet your specific needs, and offer you the individualised guidance and support you need to regain your pre-pregnancy fitness and beyond.

The class runs in 6 week blocks, which you can attend any time following your 6 week post-natal check.  Please contact us for more information or to book onto a class.
